At the present stage, thanks to advanced technologies, diesel engines and their details are quite expensive. Diesel engines are much more effective than gasoline due to a higher compression degree. Most gasoline engines have a compression degree of compression from 9: 1 to 11: 1.
It is higher for diesel engines, it can be 16: 1 or 20: 1. According to the laws of thermodynamics, the higher the degree of compression, the higher the efficiency. But a high degree of compression, unfortunately, leads to rapid wear of engine parts. Accordingly, they must be reinforced in order to withstand the voltage throughout the entire life of the engine. It is clear that such an engine will be more expensive than gasoline.
Almost all modern diesel engines for cars are equipped with turbocharged so that the amount of energy generated is sufficient for movement. A turbocharger using a large rotating blade gives a diesel engine great power, but the costs of its maintenance increase. The installation of a turbocharger system is not all, because the turbocharger heats the air, and it must be supplied to the engine chilled. This requires intercooler and special electronics, which also leads to additional expenses for repair and maintenance.
There is another important detail of a modern high -pressure diesel engine – this is a injection system, known as Common -Rail. It pumps fuel at very high pressure (from 1000 bar and above). To do this, a car with a diesel engine has a special fuel pump that creates high pressure, and this also needs additional costs when assembling the machine. Then the fuel is injected into the cylinders using piezoform. Piezoforma is an injector that uses a piezeristal and provides accurate volumes of diesel fuel supply to the engine. The advantage of nozzles is that they flexibly and in accurate proportions deliver fuel to the cylinder, allowing you to control the combustion process and ensuring fuel saving and a low level of toxic emissions. Their largest drawback is a high price.
High compression coefficients are good for the greater efficiency of combustion of fuel, but have some side effects. For example, they cause nitrogen oxides (nox). Car manufacturers, according to the modern rules for the operation of machines and the struggle for environmentally friendly transport, are forced to reduce the amount of exhaust gas emissions into the atmosphere. Unlike cars with a gasoline engine on which a three -way catalyst is installed, a car with a diesel engine needs an additional catalyst that reduces NOX emission. In addition to nitrogen oxide, diesel engines make emissions of other harmful particles processed using diesel soot filters.
With all additional expenses associated with the presence of a diesel engine in a car, you have to put up for the sake of its high efficiency. The latter fact even justifies that cars with a diesel engine are more expensive than gasoline.
