The polishing process is the final stage of manufacturing stainless steel structures. Polisflacement involves melting the surface of the metal. The thickness of the polish layer is 0.01-0.03 mm.
The polishing action is aimed at eliminating minor defects in the form of microcracks, scratches, dents and bulges. The purpose of polishing is to obtain a perfectly smooth surface with a reflective (mirror) effect.
Methods and methodology for polishing steel products
Polishing stainless steel structures can be performed through various methods, each of which has its own technologies.
There are the following methods of appropriate polishing:
mechanical – the most primitive, performed on a simple machine, through a grinding machine or manually; involves the use of polishing materials in the form of felt, skin, soft fabric and special polishing pastes;
Chemical-consists in processing the surface of the product using chemical aggressive solutions based on concentrated acids and surface-active substances; requires preliminary grinding and strict adherence to safety precautions;
electrochemical – performed by immersing the stainless structure in a solution of electrolyte and passing through it electric current; does not imply physical efforts and preliminary degreasing process; It is also potentially dangerous and requires caution;
plasma – has a resemblance to the electrochemical method, but unlike it, it consists in the use of environmentally friendly compositions, the basis of which are ammonium salts are.
Electrolyte-plasma polishing-specifics and advantages
Electrolyte-plasma polishing (EPP) of stainless steel products is carried out at a voltage of 220 V and is an ideal way of preparing the surface for applying the upper layer (ion-vacuum coating).
Priority features of EPP:
allows you to achieve minimal roughness, providing mirror polishing;
It is performed promptly – for stainless steel products, the process takes from 3 to 15 minutes;
effective surface cleansing of abrasive particles;
removal from the surface of signs of welding, burrs and sharp edges;
Increasing anti -corrosion properties.
The services of electrolyte-plasma polishing of structures made of stainless steel are offered by the Russian company Azi (St. Petersburg).
ACI’s activity is a guarantee of the quality of work, advanced technologies and affordable prices.
