Google is updating Google Play to make it easier to find apps that support widgets. The changes include a new search filter, special icons on app pages, and editorial selections.
According to Google product manager Yinka Taiwo-Peters, developers face difficulties distributing widgets because they are invisible and not well understood by users. “You asked us to improve the way you find and use widgets, and we will,” he wrote in the company’s blog.
The new filter will only show apps that have widgets. Special icons in app descriptions will help users immediately see whether an app supports this feature. And in editorial selections, Google will collect the best widgets and demonstrate their capabilities.
The new tools will appear in Google Play soon.
