Even despite the recession of the automobile market, the fleet in the Russian Federation as a whole continues to grow by selling used cars imported from abroad. It’s no secret that not a single part in the car will work forever. This statement is true for a car radiator. Over time, his honeycombs are clogged with mud, which comes from the engine cooling shirt. In addition, the radiator is constantly subjected to stones and garbage, flying from under the wheels of other cars. In winter, the salt and reagent that process the road surface negatively affects it.
What to do if the radiator has started leaking?
In case of damage to the radiator and the beginning of the leak, the driver is a choice – make repairs or buy a new part. Of course, buying a new spare part gives a guarantee of her work for several years to come. But modern methods of solder soldering allow you to achieve complete recovery at costs that make up less than half the cost of this part.
An important role is played by the fact that details for foreign cars are usually brought to order, so a new element of the cooling system can be expected up to one month, while repairs can be made in one day. Poor practice is an attempt to independently repair the radiator. “Folk” methods for eliminating damage to cells can not only be ineffective, but also increase the likelihood of improper functioning of the system as a whole. For example, when trying to drown out the leak from the inside with a sealant, you can score not only the damaged part of the radiator, but all the whole honeycombs completely.
Moreover, sealant particles when it gets into the cooling system can disrupt the circulation of antifreeze or antifreeze, clog channels leading to the heater and nozzles connecting all elements of the cooling system. In this case, an expensive cleaning of the entire system with the replacement of both the main radiator and the radiator of the stove may be needed.
Can a faulty radiator can be sealed?
STOCA is also not a universal panacea. In a similar way, you can only temporarily stop the leak if the damage is slight. As in the case of sealant, the “drowned” honeycombs lead to a deterioration in the radiator functionality, as a result of which the machine will be significantly faster to heat up. To avoid overheating of the engine, the driver will have to resort to various kinds of tricks, such as the exclusion of the temperature sensor from the radiator fan circuit (so that it works constantly), as well as periodic turning on the stove in the cabin (worst when the heater has to be included in the summer, standing in the cork).
The scored radiator can be tried to clean with all kinds of chemical compositions, including acid -containing. Despite the effectiveness of such a method, it inflicts irreparable damage to rubber pipe and gaskets. So, “breaking through” the clogged honeycombs, you can get several new leaks in different places of the cooling system. The most optimal way of repairing the radiator can be rightly called the replacement of its core. In this case, the upper and lower tanks remain untouched (unless, of course, they are damaged), but in fact, the car owner receives an almost new radiator, which is not at all inferior to a new in its working characteristics.
